Ellen DeGeneres Gives Mandy Moore The Ultimate 'This Is Us' Present
Among talk show hosts who give out gifts -- whether to celebrities or to audience members, Ellen DeGeneres seems the one to beat.
Surprising Mandy Moore
DeGeneres's target this time was singer-actress Mandy Moore. Since the This is Us matriarch last visited The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the entire acting ensemble of the hit NBC family drama has won the 2018 Screen Actors Guild Outstanding Performance by An Ensemble In A Drama Series award. She also talked about co-star Sterling K. Brown's ability to cry on cue and went down memory lane with DeGeneres on some of her previous projects such as The Princess Diaries.
However, the reminiscing was over when DeGeneres brought up an interview with Moore by Cosmopolitan, where she revealed that she moved into her house with her boyfriend. DeGeneres immediately wanted to get to Moore's juicy quote in the magazine.
"I said (to Cosmopolitan) that I wanted to make love in every room of my home," Moore told her.
While Moore stated that she forgot that her parents were going to read the magazine, DeGeneres continued to probe Moore about her personal life. DeGeneres called Moore's pantry a "fake grocery store." DeGeneres was amazed at Moore's organizational skills but was quick to point out that Moore did not have a necessary appliance in her pantry.
"So you have a blender, you have a toaster, you have a mixer. There's something missing, and I want to give you a housewarming gift, so it's gonna go on that shelf," said DeGeneres in a conversation transcribed in People Magazine.
DeGeneres had one of her staff members present the "Candy" singer-songwriter with a slow cooker. Loyal This is Us viewers remember that Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) was killed in a fire that was caused by a faulty slow cooker.
"I will remember to unplug this after I am done using it," said Moore, laughing.
What's Up, DeGeneres?
Moore was not the only person to receive some attention from DeGeneres. Jimmy Kimmel also received some love from her when the upcoming Oscars host appeared on her show. DeGeneres revealed that she collaborated with the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles and named a unit in their hospital after Kimmel's son, Billy, who had undergone heart surgeries.
The talk show host also welcomed billionaire philanthropist Bill Gates for the first time. DeGeneres asked Gates to guess items found in a grocery store in "Bill's Grocery Bills." Despite Gates having problems with two of the items, he helped The Ellen DeGeneres Show audience win a trip to one of the coveted 12 Days of Giveaways shows.
DeGeneres also welcomed longtime friend Diane Keaton back to the show. Keaton revealed her latest celebrity crush to the whole world. She admitted that she was head over heels for Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.
