'The Hills' Series Finale Alternate Ending for Season 6 MTV Will Air in August [VIDEO]
MTV's The Hills had a controversial ending when it aired its series finale in 2010, so the network announced Wednesday that it would air an alternate ending in August.
The reality series - that made stars out of Lauren Conrad, Kristin Cavallari, Audrina Patridge, Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag - aired for six seasons and ended with a surprise twist. Amid speculation that the show was staged, the ending featured the camera pulling back from the action to reveal a fake set and a full production crew, implying that the show was fake.
The new alternate ending will air on Aug. 9 at 11:30 a.m. as part of RetroMTVBrunch, according to a Wednesday report from Entertainment Weekly. RetroMTVBrunch will feature reruns of The Hills and Laguna Beach beginning on July 8 at 9 a.m. Starting on July 10, cast members from MTV's Girl Code and Awkward will provide commentary on the episodes.
After the controversial series finale aired, recurring cast member Brody Jenner explained that he loved the twist ending.
"The thing is, as you saw on the end - what's real and what's fake, you don't know," he said after the broadcast. He also added that his relationship with Cavallari, saying, "could have been fake. That's one of the questions: what was real and what was fake, and we left it [open]."
"I mean, I think we both couldn't have been happier with the ending," Cavallari added. "We were speechless."
Lo Bosworth, another cast member, said that she was impressed with the ending: "You know when the last scenes of the show were happening, I got a little [lump] in my throat."
Cavallari confirmed in February that the show was mostly staged, saying she was "forced to be a b---h" and that producers "did everything short of handing us a script."
The Hills alternate ending will air on Friday, Aug. 9 at 11:30 a.m.
