Fans of the CBS' hit crime show, Criminal Minds, have most likely been frantically scouring the web for the latest information on the program's ninth season, which is set to kick off in the fall.

While the TV series' loyalists have surely had slim pickings with any major spoilers as of late, recent news related to the first episode of Season 9 has indeed surfaced.

The upcoming installment will reportedly be featuring the profiling team attempting to track down a dangerous serial killer that has abducted, tortured, and killed his victims, according to Hollywood Hills.

The website also stated that Criminal Minds will be attaching "a new female police sergeant" to help scope out the aforementioned suspect. The respective character is described as being extremely tough.

In other Criminal Minds happenings, executive producer Erica Messer had addressed TV Guide about the Season 8 finale death of Strauss (Jayne Atkinson), and how she dealt with separating her feelings for Atkinson the person from the limited character development she felt was left for her part.

"Yeah, I had a hard time with that. I've known Jayne for so long and I had to really separate knowing Jayne and the creative place we are with Strauss. It's hard for the team to have an enemy like The Replicator, and for him to not do any damage just didn't seem right," she said.

CBS' Criminal Minds is set to kick off Season 9 on Wednesday, September 25. Be sure to keep checking back for more of the latest details on the TV series. Behind-the-scenes photos from Season 8 can be viewed below.
