It appears that season 2 of Hannibal will be eating Thomas Harris.

His words that is. The NBC drama will be moderately separating itself from the author's source material for its sophomore run, partially in order to bring back the cannibal's uncle, according to E!.

For the role of Count Robert Lecter, showrunner Bryan Fuller is purportedly courting David Bowie.

"We have reached out to David Bowie to see if he's interested and available," Fuller stated, according to TV Line. "We would love for him to play Hannibal's uncle, who is a character from the literature and in the books."

The elder Lecter was originally killed off by Nazis, but this seems to be a less likely option for the current series.

"Since our timeline is a little more present, there's a little bit of J.J. Abrams-style alternate universe storytelling where he could still be alive," Fuller revealed to E!.

As season 1 drew to an end, the ravenous Hannibal (Mads Mikkelsen) and FBI agent Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) were entangled in a bit of role reversal. Fans were left with an image of Graham behind bars for Hannibal's alleged crimes while the real perpetrator walked free.

Season 2 is slated to begin filming in August in Toronto and return to screens in 2014.
