Mad Men returns to AMC for a fifth season on Sunday after a year and a half.

AMC's Mad Men is returning to television for its fifth season on Sunday after being away for one and a half years.

The shows' 2-hour premiere episode "A Little Kiss" is expected to include a surprise for Don Draper's (Jon Hamm) character, a clash between Pete (Vincent Kartheiser) and Roger (John Slattery), and Joan's (Christina Hendricks) run-in with a houseguest.

"It's been an amazing season so far and I think there will be some significant surprises for people," says Hamm in a preview of the season. He stars as the biggest ad man in the series.

According to critics, the first episode will give fans a perspective of what is to come for the entire season but won't give away too much in the beginning.

"Series creator Matthew Weiner resists rushing into anything, easing into a reset of where players currently stand in a manner - especially given the protracted absence - that should leave all but the most ardent fans trying to putty-in the gaps. Each time-lapse introduces more wrinkles in the show's world, but the premiere offers a sketchy road map of what's to come, and won't expand 'Men's' footprint beyond its solid arthouse niche," Variety said in a review of the episode.

"I love the script from this season more than any other season," said Kartheiser who stars as Pete Campbell.

Mad Men has won four Emmys for Best Drama. The show is set in the 1960's in New York and follows the lives of people in the advertising industry and their competitive environment. This season, the show is also expected to tackle issues linked to the civil rights uprisings of the decade.
