NCIS: Los Angeles's Marty Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen) may seem like an NCIS agent so it's easy to forget that he is actually an LAPD liaison.

While Hetty (Linda Hunt) once offered Deeks the chance to join NCIS full time, he turned it down and chose to stay attached to the police force instead. However, his position outside of the Navy's investigative unit came in to play as a ready excuse while he was being interrogated during the season 4 finale "Descent."

Will Deeks ever sever his ties with the LAPD. Olson believes that he will, but not too soon.

"I think we can take out time with that," Olsen said of his characters work transition, according to Elodie Peyrano. "Its kind of more interesting from the audience's standpoint and also as an actor that he is still kind of navigating being an LAPD liaison."

Part of Olsen's character's charm comes from his generally hilarious personality differences from his NCIS cohorts. However, he possesses the necessary rebellious streak to fit in with the rest of the team.

"I'm sure at some point in the future he'll have that conversation with Hetty but I think there's still room to play before we make that jump. " Olsen further explained. "I think there's a lot of things that could go wrong before we get to that place. I think there's going to be repercussions for a lot of the things that Deeks ends up doing that's going to keep him from that for a while. I think at some point he'll probably go back to LAPD."

Hopefully Deeks won't be driven back to his old job by his feelings for Kensi (Daniela Ruah) or the effects of being tortured.
