The self-proclaimed "Best In The World" CM Punk opened the July 5, 2013 edition of WWE Smackdown with a promo and was interrupted by "The Mexican Aristocrat" Alberto Del Rio, who told the former to get off his show. Teddy Long makes a match between the two for later in the night.
During a backstage segment, Paul Heyman wonders if Punk can beat Del Rio in the squared circle, and would like to be in his corner for his upcoming Money In The Bank match, but he won't allow it.
In tag team action, the Usos defeated Damien Sandow and Cody Rhodes. Following the matchup, The Shield appeared on the titantron, promising to bring justice to the Samoans at MITB.
In the women's division, Alicia Fox beat Kaitlyn after AJ Lee distracted her by skipping around the ring. Later on, Kaitlyn finds AJ backstage, but she squanders away.
A new vignette posted for The Wyatt Family, who are slated to make their debut on the next Monday Night Raw.
In a high quality performance matchup, "The Viper" Randy Orton prevailed against "Captain Charisma" Christian via RKO.
In a backstage segment between Teddy Long and Paul Heyman, it's decided that the latter will be in the broadcast booth for the Punk versus Del Rio matchup.
In somewhat of a squash match, Fandango defeated high-flyer Justin Gabriel.
In a segment, Zeb Colter, Antonio Cesaro and Jack Swagger cut a promo.
The Smackdown main event resulted in a double count out. Heyman was attacked by Del Rio at one point during the bout. Punk ended up making the save and took out "The Mexican Aristocrat" over the barrier and into the audience for the count out. However, Punk brought Del Rio back in the ring and gave him the GTS to bring the show to a close.
