'Mad Men' Season 7 Spoilers & Speculation: Show Creator Matthew Weiner Drops Hints While Fans Theorize [VIDEO]
As Mad Men enters its final season, show creator Matthew Weiner has dropped small hints while many fans speculate what's to come in season 7.
Weiner told Vulture Wednesday that he hasn't really thought about what the series will tackle going forward, but he also suggested that they might not tackle 1969. The series has tackled a new year every season, so 1969 would be the natural pattern, but Weiner doesn't know which year will be featured in the show's finale.
As for the few details he does have in mind, Weiner revealed to The Huffington Post in late June, that Peggy might not necessarily be running her own company by the time the series ends, as many fans have suggested.
"I don't have Season 7 on paper," he admitted, "and I would say that if you're talking about [advertising pioneer] Mary Wells, you're talking about the Jackie Robinson of advertising. That is the exception and not the rule." He suggested that when women rose to that kind of power in that time period, they were almost always behind a man.
Entertainment Weekly also posted an old quote from Weiner in late June saying that he has an image in mind for the series finale. "It's a very tall order," he said, regarding the final season, "but I always talk about Abbey Road. What's the song at the end of Abbey Road? It's called 'The End.'"
Speculation has risen about exactly how the series will conclude, with one theory, posted in late June, gaining a bit of traction.
"There's always been something in the air with Mad Men, quite literally," Lindsay Green wrote for Medium.com. "From Mohawk to American, North American Aviation and Ted's own little two seater, airlines and aviation are about as prevalent on the show as aliases and fake identities."
Green is speculating that Don will assume another identity at the end of season 7 and potentially mirror the elusive D.B. Cooper of the late '60s/early '70s. D.B. Cooper was an alias for a real-life man who mysteriously parachuted off a plane with $200,000 in cash. Read the full theory here.
Mad Men will air its final season in the 2013-2014 television season on AMC.
