Fans of Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) and Temperance "Bones" Brennan (Emily Deschanel) may not have to worry about their relationship when Bones returns for season 9.

When Bones picks back up this fall, there will be a "mysterious ex-priest" from Booth's past that will help him out, according to a Monday report by TV Guide. He will help Booth in his conflict with Pelant, the serial killer who prevented him from getting married to Bones in the season 8 finale.

In addition to helping sort out his Pelant problem, the ex-priest will also help Booth sort things out with Bones and allow them to get to "the next step" in their relationship.

Booth was forced to call off his engagement with Bones in the season 8 finale due to Pelant threatening him. Pelant called Booth telling him that if he got engaged to Bones then five innocent people would die. Booth and Bones had a discussion at the end of the finale coming to the mutual agreement that it was a stressful time for them anyway and that marriage is "just a piece of paper." Regardess, the looks on their faces indicated mutual disappointment at their predicaments.

In other Bones news, there will be an exclusive panel for the show on July 19 at the Comic-Con convention in San Diego, Calif. The panelists will include Boreanaz in addition to creator/executive producer Hart Hanson and executive producer Stephen Nathan. The panel will be 12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. in Ballroom 20 of the convention. More details for the new season may be revealed at the event.

Bones is scheduled to debut its ninth season on Monday, Sept. 16 at 8 p.m. on Fox. It will continuously air in that timeslot before moving to Fridays at 8 p.m. starting on Nov. 8.
