'American Idol' Season 13 Spoilers: Contestants Allowed to use Instruments
American Idol is begin revamped in nearly every department, so why not change the auditions as well?
It appears the producers want to shake things up by allowing applicants to show off their instrumental skills as well as their vocals. According to the reality show's website, hopefuls can now audition with their guitar.
"So bring out your guitars and show us what you've got!" the new rule urges.
However, contestant cannot start off their audition with their trust six-sting by their side. Instead, each contestant must first perform a capella and then, if the producers deem it worthwhile, the performer can pair their singing with some strumming.
Another caveat to the guitar addition states that no online applicants are allowed to use the instrument during their audition, presumably because there will be no producer there to give them the green light.
There has been no word from the Fox program as to why they have suddenly allowed for this one instrument and broke a 12 -season-old tradition. Perhaps it is because the show needs change in order to stay viable. Or perhaps it is because American Idol's stiff competition, The Voice, allows for guitars.
Since The Voice is currently pulling in less depressing ratings than it's counterpart, maybe American Idol execs want to fashion their selves more like The Voice.
