Vampire Diaries executive producer Julie Plec continues to stir the pot of anticipation for its upcoming installment, as the popular TV series films its fifth season.

The EP recently spoke to TV Guide about how Elena (Nina Dobrev) will react to the now human Katherine, and how the former will protect her.

"Elena will definitely not be excited to see that Katherine is suddenly this fragile bird that needs protecting," she said.

Plec also touched on the creative brass' rationale for deciding to have Stefan (Paul Wesley) be the doppleganger of Silas, which was partly due to them wanting to shake things up for the actor.

"He's always looking to have as much fun as possible playing Stefan, so we came up with something fun and extreme," she explained.

While the actor himself is having a ball, his character won't be doing the same, as Plec gave the confirmation that his stay at a hotel will be less than ideal.

"He'll drown, wake up, drown again, wake up again. You'll see what amount of psychological damage it does to him," she said.

The CW's Vampire Diaries is slated to launch Season 5 on Thursday, October 10. Its spin-off series, The Originals, is set to begin its first season on Tuesday, October 15.
