'Falling Skies' Season 3 Spoilers: Lourdes as the Mole, Espheni Bug Control Spreads Mistrust
In the most recent episode of Falling Skies, Lourdes is revealed to be a part of the mole problem when she commits a high profile murder.
The seemingly innocent doctor, played by Seychelle Gabriel, flaunted her dark side in "The Pickett Line" when she wielded an Espheni weapon and coldly murdered President Hathaway (Stephen Collins). Afterward, Lourdes was revealed to be infected with the highest amount of alien bugs viewers have ever witnessed.
On Entertainment Weekly's 2nd Watch, producer/director Greg Beeman discussed when and how Lourdes was chosen for the role of traitor.
"Remi [Aubuchon] and the writers had it figured out before we started production so I think they kept talking about different people and there's a lot of different red herrings, but we knew before we started shooting," Beeman told 2nd Watch.
While the producers toyed with the idea of keeping the mole's identity a secret from the actor until "The Pickett Line" script was handed out, it was ultimately decided that Gabriel should know in advance.
"We wanted her to infuse [her acting] with a little bit of subtle...something...by knowing," Beeman said, according to Entertainment Weekly. "So we told her on day one of shooting. She was shocked."
Since Lourdes is clearly under the control of the Espheni, viewers are beginning to wonder how exactly people become infected with this alien technology and if there is anyone who is truly safe.
"Until they have a technology to really find out if your infected, yes, nobody is really safe and you can't really trust them," Beeman told 2nd Watch.
As if the world of Falling Skies wasn't dangerous enough, it appears anyone could fall prey to alien control.
