David Letterman May Surpass Late Night Legend with New Deal
David Letterman may surpass Johnny Carson in late night TV longevity after CBS announced a deal on Monday that will keep the "Late Show" host on the air through 2014.
Letterman was named host of "Late Night" on NBC in 1982 and moved to the "Late Show" on CBS in 1993. Carson hosted the "Tonight Show" for 30 years at NBC.
The deal between Letterman's production company Worldwide Pants Inc., and CBS will also keep the "Late Late Show" hosted by Craig Ferguson, on the air until 2014. Under the deal, the "Late Late Show" will move to a bigger stage in CBS Television City in Los Angeles and the series will be co-produced by the network and Worldwide Pants.
Nina Tassler, President of CBS Entertainment said the agreement gives the network "continued strength and stability" in late night.
