'Dancing With the Stars'' third episode kicked off last night with lots of emotion as the stars danced to a song from their most memorable year.

Each contestan unveiled intimate aspects about their personal lives that inspired their dances in the episode, including reconciliations, miracles and struggles.

Opera singer Katherine Jenkins and her dance partner Mark Ballas topped the scoreboard with 29 points with a waltz dance that judge Carrie Ann Inaba said was "like magic."

Jenkins' performance was inspired by a memory from 1996 when she learned her father was dying from lung cancer. The singer ended the dance in tears as did judge Ann Inaba.

In second place with 28 points was Latin heartthrob William Levy who danced to a Salsa song that judge Bruno Tonioli called "amazing."

The model picked 1995 as his most memorable year because it was then that he moved to the United States from Cuba.

Jenkins and Levy set a record for earning three 10s in the shortest period.

The third best performance was Maria Menounos and Derek Hough's rumba which got a score of 27 from the judges. Menounos's said her most memorable year was in 1988 when she was 10 and would pick up coins to put in a jukebox and listen to Madonna's "Material Girl."

Tonight, the second contestant will be eliminated from the show.
