In preparation for season 2, the cast of the Canadian historical drama Vikings appeared at the San Diego Comic-Con to give fans a few new spoilers.

Created by Michael Hirst, the show portrays a version of the life of Ragnar Lodbrok (Travis Fimmel), his invasions into England, and the problems that stem from them. After the first season concluded with several cliffhangers, fans are eager for news of the next chapter in Ragnar's saga.

The new season will feature a time jump, but it may not happen right away.

"I left a lot of cliffhangers at the end of episode nine, which I thought was incredibly clever of me. I thought they'd just have to commission a second season," said creator Michael Hirst, according to Huffington Post's live blog of the panel. "The answer in a way is that those were issues that needed a fairly immediate resolution and that had to happen."

While fans can expect those issues to be resolved, they can also expect to see older versions of all the characters, including the young Bjorn who will now be played by Alexander Ludwig.

Moving into the second season, many characters will be dealing with life-changing events and problems with identity, such as Ragnar with the death of his daughter and Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) with Ragnar's infidelity.

"What happens in Season 2 is that all of the major characters have to make huge choices and huge sacrifices," Hirst said, according to the Huffington Post. "They realize whatever dreams they have, whatever expectations they have will require some sacrifices, sometimes terrible sacrifices. It gets bigger and better, the stakes get higher, the armies get bigger."

A clip from the upcoming season featured Ragnar and his brother Rollo (Clive Standen) as they battle each other, a battle which may result in the death of Floki (Gustaf Skarsgard).

Vikings will be back in 2014.
