'America's Got Talent' 2013 Live Show No. 1 Recap: Branden James, Collins Key Earn Rave Reviews from Judges [VIDEOS]
America's Got Talent aired its first live show of the season Tuesday night, featuring 12 of the 60 quarterfinalists competing for four slots in the semifinals.
Here are the highlights from Tuesday night's performance show:
Collins Key:
This 17-year-old magician amazed the judges with his Twitter hashtag trick. Key asked each of the judges to tweet a word while a box hung above him. He took a piece of paper out of the box, which had each of the four tweeted words on it. Judge Mel B called him amazing and likable and also noted that he was good looking, which should help with votes.
American Hitmen:
Classic rock band American Hitmen performed a cover of With a Little Help from My Friends by The Beatles. The judges singled out the group's lead singer as particularly strong, though they seemed mixed on whether or not they stepped it up enough to stand out from the pack of 12 acts.
KriStef Brothers:
This hand-balancing duo performed a comedic routine in '80s-style costumes to the song Everything I Do (I Do It For You) by Bryan Adams. All four judges gave them a standing ovation and judge Howie Mandel said that they were the best act of the night and Howard Stern agreed.
Alexanderia the Great:
An escape artist, Alexanderia the Great managed to unchain herself and get out of a straight jacket while holding her breath underwater. Though Mel B said that she wasn't sure if her act was enough to be successful on the show, Mandel praised her performance, and Stern said famed magician Houdini would be proud.
Branden James:
This opera singer closed out the night with an uplifting performance of You Raise Me Up by Josh Groban, complete with a gospel choir. Judge Heidi Klum was in tears after the performance and said that she loved him from the moment he auditioned and hoped that America felt the same way.
America's Got Talent will air the results show for the 12 acts that performed at 9 p.m. Wednesday on NBC. The top 3 acts with the most votes will automatically be sent through to the semifinals and the judges will choose which of the 4th and 5th place acts goes through with them.
