‘Fashion Star’ Canceled After Two Seasons: Jessica Simpson, Nicole Richie, John Varvatos Show on NBC Dropped for Low Ratings
Jessica Simpson's reality show, Fashion Star, has officially been canceled just after two seasons of airing on NBC.
At the summer Television Critics Association press tour, NBC entertainment president Bob Greenblatt confirmed that the design series has been canceled on July 27.
Alongside Jessica Simpson, the judges' panel consisted of Nicole Richie and designer John Varvatos.
"There's a lot of amazing comradery and we really support each other," Simpson told NBC about the panel. "And we all three have a different design aesthetic. We style ourselves very differently and I think that we trust each others' opinions so we can be able to help our designers relate to the mass market."
Despite having an all-star panel of judges, the show lacked in ratings and total viewers.
According to E! News, the May 10 finale of Season 2 only had 2.5 million ratings and a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic. On average, the show totaled 2.76 million viewers and rated 0.7 in the adults 18-49 demographic.
After Season 1, major changes took place in attempts to save the show. Instead of airing on Tuesday nights, NBC switched the air date to Fridays. Host Elle Macpherson was also replaced by English presenter Louise Roe and on the panel of buyers, Express replaced H&M.
The show was about aspiring designers who, with the help of mentors, competed for a chance to have their designs sold at Macy's, Saks and Express stores nationwide.
Even though the show got canceled, the 33-year-old singer will be busy being a mother of two since she gave birth to Ace Knute Johnson in June. Richie, on the other hand, is working on her House of Harlow collection, which just came out with the first clothing line.
