'Person of Interest' Season 3 Spoilers: Root to Break Out of Asylum as Shaw Becomes Untrustworthy? [VIDEO]
CBS released an official preview of the new season of Person of Interest on Monday.
The Person of Interest team will be dealing with the next evolution of The Machine, according to the CBS press release. Since The Machine has become self-led, the team will face "an uncertain future."
Amy Acker, who was promoted to series regular for season 3, will find her character Root trying to reconnect with The Machine after being institutionalized in an asylum. Root will enlist in The Machine for help in breaking out of the asylum.
In addition to Acker, Sarah Shahi, who plays government assassin-turned-ally Samantha Shaw, was also promoted to series regular for season 3. In the new season, Reese (Jim Caviezel) and Finch (Michael Emerson) will keep using Shaw's skill set only to find that her violent inclinations get in the way of them working well together.

Shahi spoke to DigitalSpy in a report published Monday about where her character was going in the third season.
"I definitely know that we're going to get to see why she turned out to be the way she is," Shahi revealed, referring to her character. She said that viewers might find out more about Shaw through a series of flashbacks.
Shahi also revealed that there might be the possibility of romance for Shaw in the coming season.
"I think they are going to do something with me in that regard," Shahi said. "I don't know what." When asked if she might hook up with Reese, and whether or not Zoe (Paige Turco) would have something to say about that development, she replied, "Yes, yes, yes! Which I'm sure would make for some interesting TV."
Person of Interest will debut in its new Tuesdays at 10 p.m. timeslot starting on Sept. 24 on CBS. Watch this promo that debuted at Comic-Con on July 20:
