'Bones' Season 9 Spoilers: 'Cheers' John Ratzenberger Cast as Couples Retreat Participant [VIDEO]
A familiar face to television will be appearing in the upcoming season of Bones.
John Ratzenberger, who played Cliff on NBC's 11-season sitcom Cheers, will be appearing in the second episode of Bones' season 9, according to a Tuesday report by Entertainment Weekly. The 66-year-old actor, who has also lent his voice to every Pixar film, will be playing a character named Bill Schumacher.
Bill goes to a couples retreat with his wife Ethel to fix some of the problems with their marriage. Things are not all as they seem as the pair also has a secret double life that they struggle to keep hidden. Booth (David Boreanaz) and Brennan (Emily Deschanel) then come in and they go to the retreat to solve a case.

Booth and Brennan going to a couples retreat is perhaps suggested to be ironic considering their own problems with their relationship. They were last seen in the season 8 finale breaking off their engagement due to serial killer Pelant (Andrew Leeds) threatening Booth that he would kill five innocent people if he married Brennan.
The news of Ratzenberger's casting comes in the days after Freddie Prinze Jr. was announced to be joining the cast of Bones in season 9. Prinze's wife, actress Sarah Michelle Gellar, explained how the casting went down at the Television Critics Association press tour party on Sunday.

"This actually all came about from David, Freddie and I hanging out two weeks ago," Gellar explained. "David sort of [floated the idea to us]. And I was like, 'Sure!' And Freddie was like, 'Yes!' It was literally a poolside conversation."
Gellar and Boreanaz were co-stars on the cult show Buffy the Vampire Slayer. As for how Gellar feels about her husband and her former co-star sharing the screen together, the actress joked, "As long as they don't make out I think it'll be fun."
Bones will be premiering on Monday, Sept. 16 at 8 p.m. on Fox.
