HOT TAKE: Shaina Hurley is Doing THE Best Job on 'Love is Blind' Season 2! This is Why!
[LOVE IS BLIND SPOILER WARNING]
Shaina Hurley is doing the best job on this season of Love is Blind.
A hot take, but hear me out.
If you are following Shaina, and have seen at the very least the first new episode that cam eout today, you may think that this is insane. She said yes to someone she ultimately did not want to marry. She showed up at the couples party ALONE to and told Shane to his face that she hasn't stopped thinking about him. She also doesn't believe in dinosaurs.
HOWEVER.
The goal of Love is Blind is to find lasting love. It is not a competition show to battle it out to be the one who won a life-mate. There are no losers in this show except for those that power through loveless relationships for some pointless and unreal goal of "winning."
I thought that Shaina's break-up with Kyle was honestly inspiring. Why? She broke up with him because she knew it did not feel right. No one told her she should end it. No one tried to persuade her one way or the other. While her family, after meeting Kyle, was not completely sold on him, they did not tell her to her face that she should not be with him. They were walking, and it hit her. They had to call it off.
Shaina maintains the courage of her convictions within the confines of a situation that women are, traditionally, told that they are being overly emotional. There are redflags in several of the relationships, but the couples are fighting to power through. In fact, there are redflags in every relationship. Shake and Deepti had some weird words before getting together. Danielle and Nick are almost too anxious in their relationship. Natalie doesn't like that Shane doesn't plan. Iyanna is insecure about Jarette's decision to propose to her because he was caught between her and Mallory. (Mallory and Salvador seem to be doing fine actually...)
Shaina on the other hand did not let the idea that she had to end up with the person she left the pods with hold her back from following her head and her heart. While she loved Kyle, she knew that, for herself, religion was one of the most important things that she needed in a partner. While other couples have been plowing through these major red flags, she cut her's off. Honestly, I think both she and Kyle will wind up being happier for it.
FURTHERMORE, she handled her breakup with Kyle with so much maturity its insane. Kyle is a really amazing guy. He was so nice and open and loved her so much. He definitely deserved better, and I really believe he's going to find someone and have a perfect relationship with them. However, when Shaina broke up with Kyle, she did not blame him or criticize him. She admitted she was wrong in leading him on too far. She did not yell about it. Even when he was getting (understandably) angry, she did not rise to it and try to defend herself. She knew she was wrong to have led him on so far, but she was confident in what she had to do.
While I would not go to a party full of couples just to tell a person in a relationship that I had feelings for them and that I think their relationship is not good, it's honestly a powerful move that I respect her for. First of all, it shows that she has an insane amount of confidence in herself. She is self assured. A room full of couples that left your same experiment with lasting love? Sure, Shaina will go alone! She's an absolute bada**.
She is so confident about her feelings for Shane, and she is not afraid to go after what she wants. Once again, we harken back to Shaina maintaining the courage of her convictions. She is fearless in going after what she wants. Do I think this is the nicest thing to do to Natalie? No. Conversely, however, this is the kind of action that breeds success.
She is leaving everything she has on the show. She is ready to fight for Shane and for what she wants. Even if she leaves the show single, she will be leaving it without any regrets. This is a self correction of the way she behaved when she was in the pods. When she was still in the pods, she recognized that she, due to Natalie's frequent recounting of how close she and Shane were getting, took a step back from becoming incredibly close with Shane. She did leave with regrets, but through her actions she continues to prove that it's never too late to go after what you want with admirable tenacity.
Through all of this Shaina also proves the power of admitting when you are wrong and changing course. She doesn't shy away from being wrong which, in the modern day, has become a characteristic that has become increasingly rare. She recognized she was wrong to hold back with Shane. Now she is going for it, full steam ahead. She realized she and Kyle would not be good together. She ended it on the spot. Shaina is constantly listening to herself and the world around her. She reacts and responds with masterful awareness, and I genuinely believe that, even if it's not on this season of Love is Blind, this awareness will breed success in her life.
Do I agree with everything Shaina does? No. Do I believe in dinosaurs? Yes, I do. Do I think that her emotional intelligence, awareness, and confidence in herself will serve her incredibly well in her life? Absolutely.
