George R. R. Martin Gives Updates on Multiple 'Game of Thrones' Sequels and Reveals He's Made Progress On 'The Winds of Winter'
In a recent blog post, George R. R. Martin gave a massive update about the "Game of Thrones" universe. Not only did he express excitement at early cuts of "Game of Thrones" prequel, "House of the Dragon," but he also revealed the showrunners and titles for the other prequels and his progress on "The Winds of Winter," the sixth novel of the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series on which "Game of Thrones" was adapted.
Besides "House of the Dragon," Martin mentioned:
- "Ten Thousand Ships," which follows the adventures of a legendary Dornish warrior-queen, has brought on Amanda Segel, who had previously worked on "Person of Interest," as showrunner. She has delivered a couple of drafts.
- "The Sea Snake" (previously titled "Nine Voyages"), which is about famed explorer and trader Corlys Velaryon, has Bruno Heller, who previously worked on "Rome," as showrunner. The name of the show was changed to avoid having two "Game of Thrones" prequels with numbers in the title.
- A series that will probably be titled either "The Hedge Knight" or "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" that are adaptations of Martin's "Tales of Dunk and Egg" novella and are about a wandering knight and a young Aegon V Targaryen will have Steve Conrad, who had previously worked on "Patriot," as showrunner.
- "The Golden Empire" (working title), an animated series based on the China-inspired land of Yi Ti. Martin has yet to reveal the name of the writer.
Speaking about what he's seen of "House of the Dragon," Martin writes, "What I have seen, I have loved. I am eager to see more." He notes that he's been deeply involved which each of the prequel shows. However, that doesn't mean that he's neglecting his writing.
On "The Winds of Winter," Martin writes, "I made a lot of progress on Winds in 2020, and less in 2021...but 'less' is not 'none'...the world of A Song of Ice & Fire, is my number one priority, and will remain so until the story is told...let me say once again, yes, I am still working on Winds of Winter."
So exciting to see all these new developments in the "Game of Thrones" universe! Sounds like fans will have a lot to look forward to in these upcoming years.
