One of the more intriguing shows on the streaming giant Netflix has not been renewed for a second season; the horror-drama Archive 81 has been canceled, according to Deadline

Archive 81, which premiered on January 14th, was briefly in the number 1 spot on Netflix, until the return of their popular series Ozark, which makes its non-renewal quite a shocker. The show, based on a podcast, was produced by horror director James Wan through his Atomic Monster production company.

Starring Mamoudou Anthie and Dina Shihabi, the pseudo-found footage premise revolved around a young man named Dan (Anthie) who works restoring old videos which have been damaged.

Hired by a rich businessman to stay at a very strange and secluded house, he is tasked with trying to restore some tapes which were damaged in a New York City Apartment building fire back in the 90s. The footage was a documentary by a female filmmaker (Shihabi) who has since gone missing. What Dan finds on the tape leads him down a terrifying rabbit hole of cults and the dark arts.

The possible reason for the cancellation was due to the number of viewers versus the budget needed to produce the series, something Netflix is hyper-vigilant about keeping tabs on.

This wouldn't be the first show Mamoudou Anthie has had canceled on him. The Getdown, where he played music icon Grandmaster Flash, was also canceled after by Netflix after just one season.

This will not be the last we see of the talented actor, though. He will be appearing in the upcoming Jurassic World: Dominion due out June 10th.
