Will Smith is banned from the Oscars ceremony for ten years, and Saturday Night Live is asking a very important question: is that a bad thing?

The aftermath of the slap has still not settled. The King Richard actor has resigned from the Academy. The Academy then went on to ban the actor from the ceremony for ten years. While at first many thought this seemed a reasonable punishment, many have quickly pointed out the glaring flaws in this decision. The quippiest and most to the point in revealing the issue with this ruling is none other than Saturday Night Live.

According to an article on The Hollywood Reporter, Weekend Update host Colin Jost pointed out that not having to go to the Oscars may not be the punishment that the Academy is making it out to be. In Saturday night's show, he joked:

"As punishment for slapping Chris Rock, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has banned Will Smith from attending the Oscars for 10 year...But is that a punishment? He can still be nominated. He can even win an award. He can even go to the after-party...He just doesn't have to attend the four-hour ceremony where someone is definitely going to make fun of his wife again."

Honestly, he makes a pretty good point. The comedian then goes on to suggest an alternative punishment for the Chris Rock face slap.

"Honestly, I think a real punishment would be to make Will Smith host next year's Oscars...Because, trust me, nothing will make you question your choices in life more than hosting an awards show."

He makes some good points!
