There may be a bigger threat than serial killer Pelant (Andrew Leeds) when Bones returns for its ninth season.

"There is another big bad on the horizon," executive producer Hart Hanson told TVFanatic Thursday. "No one's asked me about this yet. Pelant, in his own way, uncovers another big bad. Perhaps [Pelant is] not the worst guy who's ever lived."

Hanson made the revelation at the recent Comic-Con panel for Bones. He also said there were plans to have Pelant killed in season 9. David Boreanaz, who plays Booth, suggested that his character should "take him out in a really strong manner."

As for the overarching theme for the new season, Hanson told TVFanatic that it would essentially be a response to season 8's theme.

"Last year I think our little theme we had for season 8 is 'Is Love Enough?'" Hanson explained. "And this season the answer is 'Yes, it is!' Doesn't mean things go easily but a lot of things that people have been waiting for years will happen in season 9. They [Booth and Brennan] are going to get married. That's going to happen."

In the season 8 finale Booth and Brennan (Emily Deschanel) called off their engagement, after Pelant called Booth and told him that five innocent people would die if he married Brennan.

Though Hanson wouldn't reveal exactly when the couple would be getting married, he said that the wedding process would unfold in a way that surprises but satisfies people.

"We've been setting up needs in our audience for years and it's time to pay off a bunch, and if we're going into season 10, which is a distinct possibility, we've got to set up new things," he said, referring to the show's future.

Bones will be premiering on Monday, Sept. 16 at 8 p.m. on Fox.
