'American Horror Story' Season 3 Spoilers: Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson Character Details; 'Coven' Theme Revealed [VIDEO]
Many spoilers were released Friday about American Horror Story: Coven, the third season in the series, including character names and relationships.
Four of the third season's actresses, Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates and Angela Bassett, appeared at the Television Critics Association press tour Friday and revealed details on their characters.
Paulson announced that she would be playing Cordelia, the daughter of Lange's character, Fiona. It was previously spoiled that Lange's character's name would be Gwen, which may have either been false information or the name was changed.
Lange said that Fiona will be a witch and the show will go "back and forth in time so it encompasses a lot of different stories."
This likely explains the characters Bates and Bassett will be playing. Enstars previously reported that Bates is playing Madame LaLaurie, an infamous 1830s socialite from New Orleans, La. who tortured and killed dozens of black slaves in her mansion. Additionally, Bassett is playing Marie Laveau, a voodoo priestess living in New Orleans in the 1800s.
American Horror Story: Coven Set Photos Released
As for the plot and themes of the new season, American Horror Story co-creator Ryan Murphy was also at the TCA press tour to reveal a few details.
"We're taking this idea of Salem and those witches fleeing to the south at some point," Murphy revealed. The series will mostly be taking place in New Orleans.

"Some of the bigger themes this year are oppression of minorities of all kinds, and within that idea, minority groups going after each other and doing the work of the larger culture," Murphy explained.
As for the overall feel of the new season, Murphy said that it would be a lot more fun than season 2's Asylum.
"This year is a drama, but there is a lot of humor and we're embracing a kind of velocity and fun with the series," he explained. "I feel that it might be a little more welcoming to an audience."
Additionally, the first three episode titles and airdates may have been released, though neither the producers nor the FX network have verified them.
The premiere episode is allegedly titled B----craft, according to SpoilerTV and will air on Oct. 9 on FX. The next two episodes are supposedly titled Boy Parts and The Replacements.
