'American Horror Story' Season 3 Spoilers: Set PHOTOS & Plot Details Revealed for 'Coven'
American Horror Story co-creator Ryan Murphy recently revealed new details about the upcoming third season of the show.
The horror anthology series, which is subtitled Coven for season 3, will involve feuding witches, according to Vulture's Monday report from the show's recent panel at the Television Critics Association press tour.
"The witches of Salem, the smart ones, got out very early and they were none of the ones who were burned," Murphy explained, after revealing the central conflict of the season as Salem witches vs. the voodoo magic of New Orleans.
"[The Salem witches] all gravitated toward New Orleans, where they now live, and every generation has a great witch who has the most powers of them all, and that's called the Supreme," Murphy continued. "Ms. Jessica Lange is the Supreme."
He added that the Salem vs. voodoo conflict is a "centuries-long" feud and it will be up to Lange's character, Fiona, and Angela Bassett's character, 19th century voodoo priestess Marie Laveau.

Murphy revealed one other plot detail for the new season, that series regular Frances Conroy would be playing the high school rival of Lange's Fiona.
As for the underlying themes of the season, Murphy said that the witches are essentially a representation of a minority group that has been persecuted and forced to stay hidden. He explained that in Coven, the witches will be in a place where they can say, "'You know what? Dammit, no. We're fighting back,' so that's what they do."

Since filming has started in New Orleans, there have been many behind-the-scenes photos of the cast on the set. The new photos feature Conroy, Lange, Farmiga, Rabe and Denis O'Hare dressed in character.

Enstars previously reported about the first few photos released, which feature Lange, Emma Roberts, Jamie Brewer, Taissa Farmiga and Gabourey Sidibe, dressed in all black.
