Big changes are on the way for New Girl's effervescent title character.
As the quirky loft inhabitants try to figure out their awkward romantic lives, new characters and a new job will add to the general mayhem that is Jess' (Zooey Deschanel) life.
"Roomfriends" Jess and Nick (Jake Johnson) look to take their relationship up a notch in the season premiere, taking a romantic trip to Mexico. However, Nick's foresight is as bad as ever and he forgets to bring along his passport, turning a nice vacation into a series of brutal taser encounters, according to TV Line.

While Jess' romantic life seems to be progressing in its usual theatrical manner, the unemployed roommate will get a steady substituting gig. However, Jess' sunny personality and over-the-top enthusiasm will make it a little difficult for her to fit in at a new school. Angela Kinsey of The Office will join the Fox program as Jess' "snobbish" adversary, according to Unreality TV.
Finally, Jess will receive a visit from her sister, according to Zap2It. While Deschanel has guest stared as a relative on her real-life sibling's Bones, it remains to be seen if Emily Deschanel will make an appearance on her little sister's comedy.
New Girl returns to Fox on Sept. 17.
