'House of Cards' Season 2 Cast: Beau Willimon Addresses Francis Underwood Character [VIDEO, NEWS]
Netflix's House of Cards continues to garner attention for its upcoming season, which will surely have Francis Underwood (Kevin Spacey) up to his usual corrupt political escapades.
Executive producer Beau Willimon recently touched on the innate ability that Spacey's work embodies, which clearly aids in getting mainstream viewers behind his characters, according to The Wrap.
"Kevin gets the audience to root for him in spite of themselves," he said.
Despite the 54-year-old's previous notoriety in the motion picture world, he was still able to raise the bar for scripted programming from the moment he pounced on the television scene. In The HoC pilot, the star actor infamously kicked off the series with the following opening line that pertained to putting a suffering dog out of its misery:
"Moments are like this require someone who will act, who will do the unpleasant thing, the necessary thing," he said.
Willimon gave kudos to Spacey for his outlandish range when it comes to pulling off the role of the House majority whip.
"The character has a ruthlessness that in the hands of a lesser actor could be off-putting. But Kevin makes it delicious, and he gets the audience to root for him in spite of themselves," Willimon said.
