He posted on Aug. 20 an illustration -- a portrait of him merged with Vincent Van Gogh's famous self-portrait -- on Instagram. The image of him has "New T.V. show: James Franco presents" scribbled on it.
"New show, with me, and a bunch of crazy stuff. Announcement tomorrow," Franco tweeted, linking it to the Instagram photo.
"They don't want me to say the channel yet, don't know why," he tweeted on Aug. 19. "But I guess you'll find out Wednesday."
Franco posted another Instagram image of his face superimposed on the Mona Lisa on Aug 19. The image uses vandalizing spray paint, a moustache and a pair of horns drawn over the portrait and a scribble which reads: "NEW TV SERIES about ART Duuuh."
Franco's upcoming film, Child of God, an adaptation of the Cormac McCarthy book, will be screened at the New York Film Festival. Franco's short film Interior.Leather.Bar, the re-imagining of the censored 40 minutes of Cruising, was recently picked up for distribution by Strand. Franco is also busy with fast-tracking the production of Palo Alto Stories, a three-part film anthology based on his eponymous book chronicling his high-school experiences. He launched a crowdfunding campaign in June to help finance the film. The campaign raised $327,000 for the film.
