Demi Lovato will play a love interest to one of the characters on Glee in season 5.

Lovato will play Dani, a struggling artist from New York City who becomes Santana's (Naya Rivera) love interest. Rivera broke the news at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards Sunday on the red carpet.

"She's playing my character's love interest so I'm very, very excited about that," Rivera revealed, talking about Lovato. "We get to sing a song together . . . I'm excited to work with her. We're bringing her to the dark side."

Rivera revealed that Dani and Santana will be singing a Beatles song in the second episode, which she said she was very excited about.

Lovato had previously been reported to appear on Glee for multiple episodes this fall. She will first appear in the upcoming season's second episode, according to TVLine, and will appear in at least six episodes. In addition to her relationship with Santana, Dani will also be good friends with Rachel (Lea Michele).

Lovato's first episode will air on Thursday, Oct. 3 at 9 p.m. on Fox.

Rivera also revealed that she and her fellow cast members were in the midst of filming the third episode of the season. The third episode will be a memorial for Cory Monteith's character, Finn, and will be a monumental one in the grand scope of the series.
