'Scandal' Season 3 Spoilers: Lisa Kudrow Joins Cast; Fitz and Olivia to Rekindle Affair? [VIDEO]
Lisa Kudrow is set to guest star on the third season of Scandal, ABC announced via Twitter on Aug. 28.
The Friends alumnus has been cast in the recurring role of a politician on the show. Kudrow will be reuniting with her long-time producing partner Dan Bucatinsky, who received an Emmy nomination for his role as James Novak, who gives up his career as a journalist to become a stay-at-home dad, and is Cyrus Beene's (Jeff Perry) husband. Buckantinsky has also worked with Kudrow on the HBO comedy, The Comeback, and guest starred on her show, Web Therapy. This is being looked as Kudrow's biggest series acting commitment in a while. Since the end of Friends and her follow-up series, The Comeback.
For a long time Kudrow had mostly been focussing on producing her show Web Therapy, in which she plays a web psychiatrist whose online sessions last only a few minutes. The show which initially was a purely web-based series was eventually picked up by Showtime, and has featured guest stars like Meryl Streep, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Alan Cumming.
With Season 3, fans of the Scandal are also eagerly looking to see what becomes of the volatile relationship between the President of the United States, Fitz Grant (Tony Goldwyn), and Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington), former White House Communications director for the president who now runs her own management firm.
Creator Shonda Rhimes spoke about Fitz Grant (Tony Goldwyn) and Olivia Pope (Kerry Pope) relationship saying that they share this "inexplicable attraction," in an interview with TVLine on Aug. 28.
While Rhimes didn't give any very revealing details about the course Olivia and Fitz's relationship would take this season she did day this about the subject, "We always end an episode in one place and by the time you reach 20 minutes into another, we're in a completely different place. It's not finished."
In a recent interview with the Huffpost, Goldwyn spoke about his character arc in the upcoming season, saying, "all hell is breaking loose at the White House over and Fitz is kind of trying to regain his center. I think he's kind of the calm in the storm, in a way. He's really determined to be a stabilizing force, if that's even possible, because everyone is running around like chickens with their heads cut off. And Fitz is not having that. We'll see him trying to think clear-headedly, even though that's extremely difficult because he gets kind of buffeted at every turn."
Season 3 of Scandal will premiere on Oct. 3 at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
