The CW's hit TV series, The Vampire Diaries, continues to garner an increasing amount of interest over its upcoming fifth season, which will be kicking off next month.

Writer Caroline Dries recently dished to Give Me My Remote about the delicate balance it takes to write the stories around Damon's (Ian Somerhalder) character, which will surely affect his relationship with Elena (Nina Dobrev).

"You don't want to do a cheesy version of that [relationship], so it's keeping the Damon edge and darkness, so [we] make sure he still possesses all the Damon-isms and stuff, but he's just happy," she said.

Dries also touched on Bonnie (Kat Graham), revealing that the deceased character indeed has a storyline in the early part of the fifth season.

"Rich new mythologies will unfold. Our mythology just keeps opening up and keeps getting richer and richer, I think. So I'm excited about that," Dries said.

The CW's Vampire Diaries will be kicking off its fifth season on Thursday, October 10. Its spin-off series, The Originals, will begin its first season on Tuesday, October 15.
