FX released the synopsis for the first episode of American Horror Story: Coven on Tuesday.

The latest installment of the horror anthology series will take place in New Orleans, with witchcraft and voodoo being the primary sources of horror. The first episode of the season, titled B----craft, features Zoe (Taissa Farmiga) a young woman who learns about her mysterious past.

Zoe discovers that she has a genetic affliction that links back to the witches at Salem. She goes to Miss Robichaux's Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies, a special school in New Orleans dedicated to protecting women with similar bloodlines to the Salem witches.

Fiona Goode (Jessica Lange), the mightiest witch of the coven, whisks into town and causes trouble by confronting old rivals of the witches: the Voodoo priestesses. Series co-creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Faulchuk wrote the premiere episode with direction by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon.

One of the Voodoo priestesses Fiona and company go against includes Marie Laveau (Angela Bassett), a real-life New Orleans priestess from the 1800s. Other enemies to the witches this season include Madame Delphine LaLaurie (Kathy Bates), another real-life woman who was a socialite in the 1800s. Madame LaLaurie tortured and killed black slaves for years in her extravagant mansion.

American Horror Story: Coven is scheduled to premiere on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 10 p.m. on FX.
