The CW's Vampire Diaries continues to ignite speculation over whether Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena's (Nina Dobrev) rekindled flame will be dying out in season 5, as the two are set to be involved in a long distance relationship.

While the relationship may or may not be headed down a tumultuous path, the twosome did seem to have great chemistry while partaking in a long-distance phone conversation in the trailer for the upcoming installment.

Damon tells his collegiate girlfriend the following in the video footage:

"Look at you, giving it the old college try," he said.

However, Elena's sibling Katherine (also played by Dobrev) steps out from the woodwork after her sister queries the Salvatore brother on if they can work their relationship out amid the long distance.

"It's been a long summer Damon," Katherine said.

This respective predicament seems to do anything but put Damon at ease, as he appears off-guard by her presence.

The CW's Vampire Diaries will be kicking off its fifth season on Thursday, October 10. Its spin-off series, The Originals,will begin its first season on Tuesday, October 15.
