'Mad Men' Season 7 News: 'Elaborate Story' Set To Be Split Into Two Parts? [VIDEO & Details]
The upcoming final season of Mad Men will be split into two parts with the first half airing in 2014 and the second half the next year, according to a Tuesday report by the Los Angeles Times.
The final season of Mad Men will be 14 episodes long, as opposed to the usual 13, and will air in seven-episode chunks. The first seven episodes will air in spring 2014 and the final seven in spring 2015. The first seven episodes will be called in a group titled The Beginning while the last seven will be called The End of an Era.
Series creator Matthew Weiner said that he was happy about AMC's decision to split the season up.
"We plan to take advantage of this chance to have a more elaborate story told in two parts, which can resonate a little bit longer in the minds of our audience," Weiner said in a statement. "The writers, cast and other artists welcome this unique manner of ending this unique experience."

AMC currently airs the last eight episodes of Breaking Bad's final season after airing the first eight in the summer of 2012. The series came back to the highest ratings it has ever received and the network is hoping to see the same success with Mad Men.
"This approach has worked well for many programs across multiple networks, and, most recently for us with Breaking Bad, which attracted nearly double the number of viewers to its second-half premiere than had watched any previous episode," AMC President Charlie Collier said in a statement. "We are determined to bring Mad Men a similar showcase."
