As the premiere date for the CW's new Vampire Diaries spin-off nears, new spoilers from star Joseph Morgan reveal why Klaus may feel the way he does about impending fatherhood.

On Tuesday, TV Guide revealed that Klaus's father Mikael Mikaelson (played by Sebastian Roche) will return to the show in a flashback.

According to Morgan, there's a good chance that Klaus's relationship with his father is one that might have caused him a lot of grief, and played a big part in why the character is the way he appears on-screen.

"We certainly get a better idea of why Klaus has turned out the way he has," Morgan dished. "One scene in particular, filmed in the woods in the dead of night, will hopefully help people to empathize a little more with this bloodthirsty, murdering sociopath I play."

Morgan also teased in a brief interview with Entertainment Weekly that Klaus would not be too happy to hear about his impending fatherhood, which could stem from his unresolved issues with his father.

"It's a very difficult one because as we know, he values family very highly...he has a weird way of being protective over them," he said. "And I think he's also still coming to terms that it's all happening and all still sinking in for him."

The snippet of his interview with the magazine also included a brief teaser from the writer, Sandra Gonzalez, about a recent visit to the Atlanta set, where the cast was filming a scene that had to do with the baby's impending arrival.

The Originals premieres Thursday, Oct. 3 at 9:00 p.m. on The CW.
