If any Mentalist fans are afraid the CBS show will be dull after Red John is caught, series creator Bruno Heller urges you not to worry.

Although Red John has played such a pivotal and consuming part of the series, the serial killer's story will wrap up before the end of the calendar year. After it does, Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) and the members of the CBI will all need to find something else to occupy their time.

According to Heller, there is defiantly something big looming on the horizon - not that he wants to reveal any details about it, however.

"As soon as you shoot an arrow in the air it's going to land somewhere, and I don't want to shoot that arrow quite yet," Heller said, according to TV Line. "I would say that one of the luxuries if we do indeed catch and get rid of Red John... is that it's a huge weight and burden off the shoulders of Jane and Lisbon and everybody else, so it's a good life change, it gives them freedom and a sense of being able to breathe again. So while there will be gripping arcs of the kind that the audience is used to, we're going to take this opportunity to open it up a bit."

Although the early part of season 6 will be serialized, there has been no word as to whether or not the writers will return to a "case of the week" format following the conclusion of the Red John case.

The Mentalist returns to CBS on Sept. 29.
