'Mad Men' Season 7 News: Matthew Weiner Says Fans Will Be Surprised by Final Episodes [VIDEO]
Mad Men fans should expect the unexpected when it comes to upcoming final season of the show.
Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner did not divulge any plot details for season 7 during a red carpet interview at the 2013 Emmy awards. He explained that he wanted fans to be surprised.
"It's one of the last entertainment things where you don't know anything that's going to happen," Weiner said, adding that he hopes fans don't know what to expect.
The creator said that they were currently in pre-production in the writer's room working on the last scripts of the series.
The show's star, Jon Hamm - who plays Don Draper - debuted a new beard at the Emmys this year, but fans shouldn't expect the character to suddenly have a beard in season 7. The actor appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live recently and said his beard was a result of his laziness and not a role.
Hamm also confirmed the show's cast would be beginning production on season 7 on Nov. 4. They will be shooting all 14 episodes of the new season in a row despite the season being split up into two parts - one in 2014 and one in 2015.
As for one of the series' most unusual characters, season 6 standout Bob Benson's (James Wolk) status on the show is still unknown. Wolk is currently appearing as a regular on the CBS comedy The Crazy Ones but said he'd be willing to do double duty if Mad Men wanted him back.
"I'd love to be back on that show. I had a great time working on it and I think they felt the same way. And if there's a story to be told, I'd love to be there," Wolk told The Daily Beast in July.
In September, the actor admitted that he couldn't say anything even if he had an update on Bob Benson's character.
Season 7 of Mad Men begins with seven episodes in spring 2014 and concludes with the final seven episodes in spring 2015.
