A new Bones rumor has spread recently claiming that star David Boreanaz may be quitting the show at the end of the current season.

Boreanaz is entering his ninth season playing Seeley Booth on Bones but RadarOnline is reporting that it may also be his last. According to the site, a source close to the show is claiming that Boreanaz is "telling friends that it's his last season."

Boreanaz is a co-lead on the show with Emily Deschanel, who plays the neurotic Temperance "Bones" Brennan. Booth and Brennan developed a relationship starting in season 6 and will be getting married in the sixth episode of this season.

Boreanaz took to Twitter Monday and may have revealed that he will actually be staying on the show, but he did not confirm or deny anything specifically. The actor previewed Monday night's episode and included the hashtag "ManyMoreYearstoCome," indicating that he may actually be staying.

As for whether the show will go on for a tenth season in the possibility of Boreanaz's departure, the source close to the show is unsure.

"The show makes a lot of money, but re-casting a lead is always a challenge," the source said. "The network could throw in the towel if David can't be signed for more seasons after this one."

Thus far in the television season, Bones has come in fourth in its timeslot in terms of total viewership behind The Voice, Dancing With the Stars and How I Met Your Mother. Though ratings have not significantly decreased, it's possible that Fox may decide to end the show if Boreanaz is no longer interested.

Fox will also be experimenting with the show starting in November when it switches from Mondays at 8 p.m. to Fridays at 8 p.m. This will be the first time the show airs on Fridays.

The next episode of Bones airs Monday at 8 p.m. on Fox. Watch a trailer for Monday night's episode here:
