While fans of BBC's hit TV series, Sherlock, continue to await its season 3 launch, they also are surely wondering just how Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) was able to fake his own death.

The season 2 finale, titled The Reichenbach Fall, came to a close with Sherlock being framed by Moriarty (Andrew Scott). The latter tells the former that he must commit suicide or Mrs. Hudson (Una Stubbs), Watson (Martin Freeman) and Lestrade (Rupert Graves) will all be killed by his hired guns.

In response to the threat, Sherlock throws himself off of the roof of a tall building and onto the pavement below.

Producer Mark Gatiss, who also dons the role of Mycroft Holmes, spoke about Sherlock's future. Interesting enough, season 3 will pick up three years later, which means that Cumberbatch's character was forced to stay in hiding to keep the cover on his bogus suicide, according to Latin Times.

"He actually has a line in [series one finale] the Great Game which is 'The art of disguise is knowing how to hide in plain sight' and that was because, right from the start, I thought modern day Sherlock Holmes would not put putty noses on, he would basically be standing behind you now and you wouldn't know he was there," Gatiss explained.

Interesting to note, it's now been two years since Sherlock was last seen with new episodes on the small screen. Be sure to keep checking back for more of the latest information on the program.
