Arrow fans are eagerly awaiting Wednesday night's premiere episode of season 2, but new fans can easily get into the show without too much knowledge of season 1 as well.

Arrow, which is based on the popular comic book hero Green Arrow, is entering its second season Wednesday at 8 p.m. EST on The CW. When the series last left off, Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) and Diggle (David Ramsey) had mortally wounded evil businessman Malcolm (John Barrowman).

Oliver then lied to his best friend/Malcolm's son Tommy (Colin Donnell) about killing Malcolm. This comforted Tommy as he succumbed to wounds from falling debris from the earthquake made by The Undertaking, a mission intent on destroying the poorest part of the city.

Season 2 picks up in the wake of the earthquake, with Oliver fleeing to the island of Lian Yu where he first learned to become a vigilante. Diggle and Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) convince Oliver to come out of hiding though he has no intention of using his bow and arrow again.

"The consequences of his actions last season are something that Oliver is going to be dealing with all of this season," executive producer Andrew Kreisberg told The Huffington Post recently. "He's going to be taking a lot more responsibility for his actions in Season 2."

Season 2 will also feature the introduction of Isabel Rochev (Summer Glau), VP of of Acquisitions of Stellmoor International. Isabel will try to take over Queen Consolidated after The Undertaking.

New viewers who wish to try out Arrow for the first time do not necessarily have to watch season 1 to keep up with what's going on.

"It really is a fresh new story," Kreisberg explained. "Obviously, there's some names and some events that will be referred to that people will have to catch up with. But it really feels like in some ways it's a brand new show."

Season 2 of Arrow premieres Wednesday at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
