While many fans of the Emmy-nominated series House of Cards are dying for its return for season 2, they'll be surely be shocked and appalled to hear that it's feasible that the program will end after its upcoming installment.

According to Gold Derby, executive producer Rick Cleveland, who scripted two episodes of season 1, believes that the popular show won't go beyond its sophomore season. He also pointed out that HoC was ineffective in its attempts to bolster media coverage and anticipation with its current online distribution model, which he claims may have affected its chances in the Emmys race.

"House of Cards is only going to go for a second season and I think that's it," Cleveland said, while in attendance for the Vancouver International Film Festival.

While showrunner Beau Willimon took to Twitter in August to reveal that he has aspirations for penning more seasons in the future, Cleveland feels that they would never be produced.

Cleveland also made it a point to stress that actors Kevin Spacey (Francis Underwood) and Robin Wright (Claire Underwood) prefer to work in film over scripted series.

"Kevin Spacey likes to do movies and Robin Wright likes to do movies," he added.

While no air date for House of Cards has yet to be officially determined, but the show has continually been projected to start season 2 at some point in early 2014. Be sure to keep checking back with Enstars for more of the latest news on the popular series.
