Following a solid block in ratings for its first two episodes, The CW has ordered three additional scripts for its freshman drama The Originals, a spin-off from his hit show The Vampire Diaries.

According to Deadline, the network has also picked up additional episodes of other freshman dramas, The Tomorrow People and Reign. Tomorrow People has so far aired one episode, while Reign does not premiere at all until next week.

The Originals premiered to a solid 0.9 rating among adults 18-49 two weeks ago when it appeared on Thursday after Vampire Diaries' premiere. The show continued to do well when it moved to its permanent Tuesday night slot this week, averaging 1.9 million total viewers.

The show was initially only picked up for the initial 13-episode order that most shows get, and an order of three additional scripts is a positive sign.

However, the guarantee of further pick-up is not one fans should count on entirely, because ratings could still drop, prompting the show to be cancelled. Episodic pick-ups, according to Deadline, are a vote of confidence from a network when the show is well-liked, but not yet considered strong enough to get a full-season order with a straight Back 9 order.

NBC, FOX and ABC have already ordered full seasons of their respective breakout hit shows The Blacklist, Sleepy Hollow and Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., while Fox's not as well performing but still better reviewed Brooklyn Nine-Nine has received a similar additional script order as The Originals.

'Lucky 7': Show Cancelled After Scoring No Luck With Viewers

Some other shows haven't fared as nicely as these. ABC already canceled the drama Lucky 7 after two episodes, while CBS canceled the comedy We Are Men after the same amount aired.

The Originals airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on the CW.
