Jamie Lynne Grumet Addresses TIME's Cover on 'Today' Show
Jamie Lynne Grumet, the 26-year-old mother who appeared in the cover of Time magazine, breastfeeding her 3-year-old son, was featured Friday on the "Today" show.
TIME's cover has sparked tremendous buzz on the web.
The magazine's issue features a story about "attachment parenting."
"We knew exactly what we were going to get in to," Grumet said regarding her picture in Time's cover.
"This isn't how we breast-feed at home, it's more of a cradling, nurturing situation," she added.
"I do understand why Time chose this picture because...it did create such a media craze to get the dialogue talking."
In the picture she is standing and her son is on a chair breastfeeding. The magazine also featured a Q&A session with her.
Grumet also said that she doesn't feel "attachment parenting" takes away from her relationship with her husband.
"A lot of people say, you know, you can't really be intimate with your husband if you're co-sleeping and ... those are kind of myths, too."
Yet, her advise to parents is that "attachment parenting" is not good for everybody.
"You need to do what's best for your baby and for your own family," she said.
"You can take some of Dr. Sears' attachment parenting philosophies and maybe not others and that's OK; you're not a bad parent. Your child will still be OK."
