'Law & Order SVU' Season 15 Spoilers: Major Rift Set To Take Place Between Barba And Amaro Moving Forward? [VIDEO]
NBC's hit crime show Law & Order: SVU is set to address the Anthony Weiner scandal, and the drama filled episode is set to feature some friction from within the SVU squad as the scenario will be one that hits home for D.A. Barba (Raul Esparza).
SVU showrunner Warren Leight recently spoke to TV Guide about Barba's personal dilemma, which is due to the fact that childhood friends from the Bronx, Eddie Garcia (Kirk Acevedo) and Alex Munoz (Vincent Laresca) end up being part of a case.
"On the eve of Munoz's election to become the first Hispanic mayor of New York, the scandal starts to break. He basically starts off by trying to get Eddie to help cover it up, and when Eddie gets in trouble, he goes to Barba to get Eddie off the hook. The question is how much pressure can Munoz put on Barba as a result of their shared past," he explained.
While Leight explains that Olivia (Mariska Hargitay) will try to be empathic of Esparza's conflict of interest with his corrupt friends, Amarro won't quite take the less than ideal predicament quite as well.
"Olivia and Barba are very close and she tries to see his side of things. Amaro, who's always a little bit black and white in thinking these things is furious. They get pretty hot with each other because Amaro calls out what he perceives to be Barba taking care of his friends instead of following the trail of the crime. It's a pretty contentious episode," he added.
NBC's Law & Order: SVU will next air on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 9 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. A preview video for the upcoming episode, titled October Surprise, can be watched below.
