New "Bachelorette": ABC Show Premieres Tonight Starring Emily Maynard
ABC will debut its new Bachelorette show monday evening, featuring single mom Emily Maynard in Charlotte. The 8th season of "The Bachelorette" is expected to be "drastically different" from what viewers on normally used to. The show will start with Maynard meeting 25 potential men.
Maynard was engaged to NASCAR driver Ricky Hendrick when he tragically died in a plane crash in 2004. He died before their daughter, Ricki, 6, was born.
According to USAToday, host Chris Harrison said in a press call that its the first time the show featured a single mom which "definitely changed the tone" of everything.
First off, the show was not filmed in the usual Bachelor pad based in Los Angeles. Rather, it was filmed in Charlotte, where Maynard lives. The single mom did not want to move her daughter for her filming and wanted to keep her daughter's routine as normal as possible.
Harrison said: "Throughout the show, it was always that underlying issue of, she's a mom and is this guy ready for that? It's not about just hopefully finding love and a husband, it's about finding a father figure to Ricki."
He added that it will not show the superficial drama that we've seen in the past, and that the show will take on a more serious tone with bigger issues.
Maynard previously won the Bachelor season starring Brad Womack, but the two broke up and now Maynard is ready to find love again in The Bachelorette.

The filming for the ABC show has not finished yet so we do not know whether she found love. However, they filmed in places such as Bermuda, London, Dubrovnik, Croatia and Prague.
Although we will see Maynard in a bathing suit and in some sexy scenes, Harrison says Maynard wants to be seen as a mother and is not the "crazy, bungee-jumping, sky-diving" type of woman.
"I think what people will love - especially single moms - is that Emily is holding that banner high. There are several moments throughout this show where, for lack of a better term, people are going to say, 'Damn girl, well done, way to handle it.' You think she's this delicate little flower until right when she needs to handle her business. And she handles it very well."
The new season of ABC's "The Bachelorette" will kick off tonight at 9.30pm EST.
