"The Voice" to Run Second Cycle This Fall To Compete with X Factor: Will It Be Christina Aguilera vs Britney Spears?
It has been less than a week when the second season of "The Voice" ended, with finalist Jermaine Paul winning the series. Now the network behind the hit show has commissioned another cycle of the show to air in fall of this year. That's only a few months away. This will mean that "The Voice" will run two cycles in one year!
NBC's entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt confirmed that the third cycle of the show will air this fall, as a rival to Fox's X Factor.
"We were always thinking about having two cycles down the road, we just didn't want it too early," Greenblatt said. "We wanted to expand the format, see how that played out, and we just feel like, how can we not deploy our strongest show in two cycles? Like every other reality show does."
The chairman confirmed that the four coaches will be returning for the next two cycles of the show. Greenblatt told TV Guide, "We will be figuring out shortly about all their scheduling and touring and recording needs. Doing two cycles a year I think is not something they contemplated in first go round. So we've got to figure that out. But I'm hoping they'll all be back and we're going to continue to refine the show so we get the best version of it."
NBC's Greenblatt also said in the conference call that the network will get more comedy. "We are adding several new comedies which we hope will portend the future of where we go with shows that are broader and more accessible and will garner a bigger audience."
The Voice is scheduled to air in fall, on Mondays and Tuesdays, while The X Factor will air Wednesdays and Thursdays.
It will be interesting to see The Voice and X Factor competitions running one after the other this fall. Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears are both former Disney stars and have launched their musical careers at around the same time. They were always known to be rivals - and Britney has now officially signed on to be X Factor's newest judge. But whose show will garner more views this time? Will it be Christina Aguilera on "The Voice" or Britney Spears on the "X Factor". Which show will you watch?
