'The Mentalist' Season 6 Spoilers: Is 'Tyger, Tyger' Crucial to Red John Case? Will Conspiracy Be Next Major Plot? VIDEO
The Mentalist's Patrick Jane is closer than ever to lifting the veil on Red John's identity but he must also determine whether or not the serial killer is involved in the "Tyger, Tyger" conspiracy.
The phrase made a reappearance in the season 6 premier when Brett Partridge (John Plotnick) uttered it with his dying breath. Then, unbeknownst to Jane (Simon Baker) or Agent Lisbon (Robin Tunney), the famous William Blake line was revealed to be a codeword used to help police perpetrate and cover up crimes.
As Rigsby (Owain Yeoman) begins to realize that there is more to Bob Kirkland's (Kevin Corrigan) death than originally meets the eye, the CBI team will have to come to grips with the shocking secret while also determining if it really is connected to Red John.
"That is a mystery that the team is confronted with, and I think Jane is going to sense clearly that there's the threat of Red John, and then there's this other threat. Is this Red John, or is this an entirely separate other thing? Are they connected? If they are connected, how?" asked Eoghan Mahoney, the writer of this week's "Red Listed," according to TV Guide. "Certainly we've heard Red John say 'Tiger Tiger' to Jane personally. But again, is that Red John just screwing with Jane? Is that giving him clues that are helpful, because why would he do that? Or is it giving him clues that are going to lead Jane into traps?"
Meanwhile, series creator Bruno Heller has stated that some of the Red John suspects, particularly those viewers saw together during "Black-Winged Red Bird," may be part of the post-Red John plot. Could this new storyline be a continuation of the "Tyger, Tyger" mystery?
"The CBI goes through its own sort of institutional crisis," Heller said, according to TV Guide. "The walls are crumbling around them as they are trying to solve this big final mystery. Bertram is both a prime suspect as Red John, but also deeply involved in that other plot."
The Mentalist airs Sundays at 10 p.m. on CBS.
