'Hawaii Five-O' News: Alex O'Loughlin Not Too Keen on Playing McGarrett in the Long Run?; Daniel Dae Kim Takes on Producer Duties [VIDEO]
Alex O'Loughlin signed on for two more seasons of Hawaii Five-O while Daniel Dae Kim started his own production banner 3AD with the show's studio CBS.
O'Loughlin plays the role of detective Steve McGarrett on the show and fans will get to see a lot more of him, but the Australian actor has already started thinking about his career past the series. In a recent interview at the Australians in Film awards dinner, the 38-year-old actor stated that he had been struggling to make time for other potential projects.
"Like I read Doug Liman's script, Everest, which he's about to start directing - it's amazing and it's invigorating. But it's also heartbreaking at the same time because it feels so far away from me at the moment," O'Loughlin said. "I've never played one character for this long. And it's network TV, too, so it comes with its own set of challenges from the artist's perspective. But I'm very lucky. My kids will get to go to good schools, we all eat organic food, and I live in Hawaii."
He also spoke about the success of the show in spite of the many obstacles that it had to overcome.
"I mean, we've had cast troubles. I got really hurt and had to go and sort myself out in the second season. We've had injuries, we've had all sorts of things. It just keeps going," he said. "We can't seem to kill it. So I guess it's going to stick around for a while."
When the actor was asked if he would like to stick on the show for longer, he suggested that while he didn't have the time to think about his future as he was neck-deep in work, he would like to get started on other projects as soon as he could.
"At the moment I can't imagine working any longer than tomorrow. Because there's just so much work. But we'll see, we'll see. I want to do other things sooner rather than later," he said.
Kim's, who plays Chin Ho Kelly on the show, new producion banner has signed a deal two year deal with CBS. Kim will be deveolping and producing projects for the network.
