'Survivor: Borneo' Contestant B.B. Andersen Dies of Cancer [VIDEO]
One of the contestants on the original season of Survivor died this week.
77-year-old Survivor: Borneo contestant B.B. Andersen died of brain cancer on Oct. 29, according to his Kansas City Star obituary via RealityBlurred. His obituary states that many knew Andersen as a "conservative champion" who loved and served his country.
Andersen was one of 16 contestants that participated in the very first season of Survivor in 2000. Like many of the show's contestants during that time period, he became a household name despite being the second person voted out of the game.
Andersen was the oldest member of the Pagong tribe and had trouble relating to his younger tribemates. He suggested to his tribe mates that they throw the second Immunity Challenge so that he could be voted out. After Pagong lost the challenge, Andersen was voted out 6-2 by his tribe on Day 6 of the game.
Over the last few months, Andersen's health had been deteriorating.
"He basically had a massive stroke and brain cancer (sometime this summer) and was in an out of hospice for months now," said local attorney Dwight Sutherland.
Overall, Andersen left his mark on his hometown in Kansas.
"If you met B.B. Andersen once you would never forget him," Sutherland noted. "I mean, the guy had charisma. He was big and he was handsome and he was an amazing guy. He was one of a kind."
The former Survivor contestant is only the second to pass away after Survivor: Palau contestant Jenn Lyon died of breast cancer at the age of 37.
